May 22, 2015 Lecture3: Basics of Device

A lecture on "Basics of Device" was delivered.

A lecture on "Basics of Device " was delivered today by Prof. Onishi department of science and engineering. There was an explanation about Haptics and Soft Robotics, next generation technology that innovates robotic procedures.
Haptics-Technology that creates the feel of direct touch by communicating force artificially and replicating the sense of touching a distant object (kinesthetic sense).
Soft Robotics-Transcend rigid and awkward movements to realize flexible and limber movements

It is believed the use of these two technologies will realize endoscopic surgery robots with the kinesthetic sense and the human-like flexible movements absent in the existing robots.

We were able to experience first hand through use of the actual equipment, the difference kinesthetic sense makes in the remote operation of robots. In addition, We were able to experience communication of kinesthetic sense in the virtual world, through communication with iPad.
